Cal Poly Pomona
California State Polytechnic University, Pomona is a school located in Pomona California. It is well known for its engineering program and its lab work. I really was glad to hear about the well known engineering program due to my interest in the area. Something I did not like about the college is that it requires freshman to live on campus, and the dormitories were quite small. When choosing a college I prefer a semi large campus. Whether it is public or private with any religious affiliation is of no meaning to me. I would like a large amount of people to attend my college to make a diverse crowd. I would like my college to be next to an area with things to do, so I will not get bored when I am not studying or attending classes. A big plus is if the professors have office hours that I can attend, cause these have been a huge help for me in the past. I have no preference of large or small classrooms. I would really like this college to be in the state of California due to in state tuition, and possible trips home on the weekend.
To get into Cal Poly Pomona, the range of SAT score that you are looking for is a 460/570 Critical Reading and a 490/620 Math. ACT scores are 19 for English and 22 for Math. It would cost about $22,000 for me to attend instate. 69% of new students receive financial aid when attending Cal Poly Pomona, and the average grant covers almost $9,000 of college costs. Some academic opportunities that I may possibly be interested in are study abroad programs. I would find this interesting because living alone in a location where you feel out of place is always a life changing experience.
In order to use my time wisely, I would always try and study before doing anything else. This way I can get the studying out of the way, and if I want to hangout with people, I can afterwards. I can also utilize quiet study places like a library or a "fishbowl" as they call it in Cal Poly Pomona. Some other activities I would be interested in are a running club, and intramural sports such as basketball and softball or baseball. At Cal Poly, roommates are selected by filling out a questionnaire that can link you with a roommate that they think you would have good chemistry with. Also, you can request to stay with someone you already know that is attending the college by putting their Bronco ID on the housing form. At Cal Poly, freshman are required to live on campus, and required to get a meal plan. Cal Poly Pomona has 280 clubs that you can join offering a vast and well rounded experience in college. There are also quite a few sororities and fraternities at the university. It has NCAA sports, as well as club sports and intramural sports. Pomona is in Los Angeles county, offering many things to do in a small radius of the University.
